Johnny Cañas is one of Santa Ana’s rising boxing prospects, most recently earning a split decision victory over Mexico’s Jose Antonio Meza at The Hangar in Costa Mesa.
The 24-year-old has already gained valuable experience on some of boxing’s biggest stages, appearing on major cards such as Jaime Munguia vs. John Ryder, Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia, and Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Serhii Bohachuk.
Since 2018, Cañas is under the guidance of coach Hector Lopez, sharpening his skills alongside established fighters like Alexis Rocha. Despite having just eight amateur bouts, he still earned a place on the U.S. National Team, an early sign of his natural talent and potential.
Nicknamed “Sugarcane” due to his tall frame and a play on his last name translated into English, Cañas has continued to build on that early promise with steady development in the professional ranks. With strong mentorship, Cañas is positioning himself as a young prospect to watch in the sport.
