John “Scrappy” Ramirez is known for his high-energy, fan-friendly style and relentless work ethic. Growing up in East Los Angeles, Ramirez faced a difficult childhood. At eight years old, he moved to Honduras with his father and had to quickly adjust to a new country and language. By twelve, he returned to the U.S. alone, where he had to fend for himself while his mother worked long hours. Surrounded by gangs and violence, Ramirez kept his focus in sports, staying clear of the street life that claimed the lives and futures of his two older brothers.

A talented amateur, Ramirez became a two-time Sugar Bert national champion and took home the Regional Golden Gloves title and Southern California State title in 2018. His brief, but successful, amateur career (18-7) set the stage for his fast rise as a pro.

Ramirez’ breakthrough came in May 2022 when he won the vacant NABA Super Flyweight title with a sensational knockout of Jan Salvatierra, sending his opponent crashing through the ropes. In April 2024, Scrappy fell short in his first world title opportunity against David Jimenez on the Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia undercard in Brooklyn, but he remains an exciting prospect with a bright future ahead. Training at Brickhouse Boxing Club in Los Angeles with coach Julian Chua, Ramirez works alongside unified cruiserweight world champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and is always willing to learn the game.

Most recently, Ramirez returned to the ring to deliver another ‘Scrap-Show’ on the Curiel vs. Panthen card at Acrisure Arena to kick off the year. With his flashy style and determination, Scrappy is poised to make a good run in the super flyweight division.
